A Personal Biblical Perspective on the Coronavirus – Pt. 2

A Personal Biblical Perspective on the Coronavirus – Pt. 2
by Allan R. Lee
Following through with the exegetical/Hermeneutical “Birth Pangs” and “Recapitulation” that we highlighted in part one of my “thoughts” and through which we “deduce” from the Biblical texts as stated by Jesus Himself, that the sign of “pestilences” [viruses] along with all the others that were noted, were only “the beginning”:  “All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.” [Matt. 24:8]. Births pangs increase in intensity as time goes on, moving toward the birth. The principle of recapitulation, as used by Jesus when He mentioned the abomination of desolation, “So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.” (Matthew 24:15–16 ESV). The context of Daniel’s prophecy regarding “the abomination of desolation” is the “trigger” for the “delivery” and cumulation of the events that make up “the time of Jacob’s trouble.”

John alludes to this in Revelation 6: “And I looked, and behold, a pale horse! And its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed him. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth. (Verse 8). The pale horse brings to an end the “birth pangs” of pestilences/diseases as previewed in the diseases that along with all of the other signs “must take place BEFORE the end.” (Matt. 24:6)

Thus, it is quite in keeping with the Word of God that the Coronavirus is the current pain of the pestilence “birth pangs” that will eventually “give birth” to the rider on the Pale horse of Rev. 6. It also means that it is quite possible that, because “the end is not yet” as stated by Jesus, even more deadly viruses and diseases could impact our planet before Christ comes to set up His kingdom on earth.

But now, lest we become too caught up with the future judgments that are sure to come, we must ask ourselves the same question Peter asked when he described these days to his readers: “Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,” (2 Peter 3:11 KJV).

Paraphrased, we might ask ourselves: “How are we to live now in this day of the Coronavirus to show that we are truly the children of God who are safe and secure “in Christ” no matter what may come our way?
Well, I believe Jesus gives us clear instructions along with all the information he gives us about “the last days” and the “birth pangs” of pain that will lead up to them. Read carefully what He says in the following passage, while you do, bear in mind that we often misinterpret the time-context of what He says:

“Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, [the Jewish people, those being persecuted. His elect] ye have done it unto me.” (Matthew 25:34–40 KJV)

That’s how we are to live now, even as His people [His elect, the Church] will live then [the recapitulation principle] even in the face of danger [contracting the virus as we help “the most vulnerable and those on the front line fighting this disease]!!

Those are my “thoughts” for now, Teleiogs. What are yours???
